The 5 Best New Netflix Shows You May Have Missed This Month

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast

Netflix

February is over, and while that means Netflix is about to add new shows and movies over the course of the next month, there are a number of them you might have missed in the past few weeks, and I wanted to highlight them.

This is what I would consider the five best new Netflix shows that aired last month, ones that do not necessarily have to be Netflix originals but also licensed shows they added to its lineup. Here’s a selection:

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast

Netflix

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast – This is the return of the creator of Derry Girls, Lisa McGee, one of my favorite comedies of all time. While I don’t think How to Get to Heaven from Belfast quite matches it, the comedy follows three friends as they attempt to solve the mystery of a dead friend. It’s funny, but it also has plenty of twists and turns, along with great comedic and dramatic performances from the cast.

Strip Law – I definitely think this one was overlooked, as I don’t believe I saw it on Netflix’s top 10 list once. It’s an animated series, not about a lawyer who’s a stripper; it takes place in Vegas, where a lawyer teams up with a magician to solve crimes. This can give you a fix of Adam Scott in between Severance seasons, and it also stars Abbott Elementary’s Janelle James, Stephen Root and Keith David.

The Hunting Party – If you just looked up the reviews for The Hunting Party online, you may be wondering why I’m recommending an 18% scored show. However, the licensed series, currently airing on NBC and now with season 1 on Netflix, has been embraced by fans as the type of breezy crime series streaming has been missing lately, comparable to shows like Bones from years past. Audience scores are high.

Search Party – The second party-based show here, though neither being about an actual, fun party. Rather, Search Party is one of the most bizarre comedies I’ve ever seen, led by Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat. Season 1 is about a missing college friend (see Belfast), but the show’s unique aspect is that it wildly shifts storylines and genres every season. You will not believe where it ends up by season 5. It also has a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, for good measure.

Stargate SG-1 – One of the most famous sci-fi series ever that aired from 1997 to 2006, and Netflix added all ten seasons of the series two weeks ago. This makes it a perfect time for a rewatch or a giant undertaking as you watch uh, 214 episodes with 20-22 episode seasons, the way TV used to be. The show takes place after the 1994 movie (which you may want to watch) and features soldiers and scientists who head through the titular Stargate to other worlds to fight aliens and occasionally, befriend them.

Those are my picks for this month, but I am open to more suggestions, certainly!

(Photo by Paul Natkin/Getty Images) Getty Images Singer Lou Gramm has a vivid memory of recording the ballad “Waiting for a Girl Like You” at New York City’s Electric Lady Studio for his band Foreigner more than 40 years ago. Gramm was adding his vocals for the track in the control room on the other side of the glass when he noticed a beautiful woman walking through the door. “She sits on the sofa in front of the board,” he says. “She looked at me while I was singing. And every now and then, she had a little smile on her face. I’m not sure what that was, but it was driving me crazy. “And at the end of the song, when I’m singing the ad-libs and stuff like that, she gets up,” he continues. “She gives me a little smile and walks out of the room. And when the song ended, I would look up every now and then to see where Mick [Jones] and Mutt [Lange] were, and they were pushing buttons and turning knobs. They were not aware that she was even in the room. So when the song ended, I said, ‘Guys, who was that woman who walked in? She was beautiful.’ And they looked at each other, and they went, ‘What are you talking about? We didn’t see anything.’ But you know what? I think they put her up to it. Doesn’t that sound more like them?” “Waiting for a Girl Like You” became a massive hit in 1981 for Foreigner off their album 4, which peaked at number one on the Billboard chart for 10 weeks and…
