La actividad económica de Estados Unidos (EU) apenas ha variado en las últimas semanas, aunque el empleo se ha debilitado en aproximadamente la mitad de los 12 distritos de la Reserva Federal (Fed) y el gasto de los consumidores ha disminuido, según informó ayer el banco central estadounidense, lo que probablemente refuerce las preocupaciones sobre el mercado laboral a medida que se acerca la próxima decisión sobre tasas de interés.

“La actividad económica apenas ha variado desde el informe anterior, según la mayoría de los 12 distritos de la Fed, aunque dos distritos señalaron un ligero descenso y uno informó de un crecimiento moderado”, afirmó la Fed en su último informe Beige Book, un compendio de resultados de encuestas, entrevistas y otros datos cualitativos de sus 12 bancos regionales.

“El empleo disminuyó ligeramente durante el periodo actual, y aproximadamente la mitad de los distritos señalaron una menor demanda de mano de obra”, señala el informe.

“A pesar del aumento en los anuncios de despidos, más distritos informaron que sus contactos limitaban la plantilla mediante la congelación de contrataciones, la contratación solo por sustitución y la reducción natural de personal, en lugar de mediante despidos”.

Publicado dos semanas antes de cada reunión sobre política monetaria de la Fed, el informe tiene por objeto ayudar a los responsables de la política monetaria a evaluar la salud de la economía con una visión más oportuna y, a menudo, más colorida que la que ofrecen las estadísticas oficiales.

Vacío de datos

Con el vacío de datos dejado por el cierre récord del gobierno de 43 días, que se prolongó hasta mediados de noviembre, el Libro Beige debería tener más peso en las deliberaciones entre los responsables políticos de la Fed, muy divididos, tras su decisión del mes pasado de recortar las tasas en un cuarto de punto por segunda reunión consecutiva. La tasa de interés oficial se sitúa ahora en el rango de 3.75-4.0 por ciento.

Metaplanet (3350), the largest bitcoin BTC$116,183.54 treasury company in Japan, said it established two subsidiaries — one in Japan and one in the U.S. — and bought the bitcoin.jp domain name as it strengthens its commitment to the largest cryptocurrency. Bitcoin Japan Inc., will be based in Tokyo and manage a suite of bitcoin-linked media, conferences and online platforms, including the internet domain and Bitcoin Magazine Japan. The U.S. unit, Metaplanet Income Corp., will be based in Miami and focus on generating income from bitcoin-related financial products, including derivatives, the company said in a post on X.
