PANews reported on December 19th that, according to Ming Pao, a man was defrauded of HK$2 million in cash while trading USDT at a money exchange in Tsim Sha Tsui last November. Two 18-year-old youths attempted to transfer the cash using a passageway inside the safe at the exchange, but failed to escape and were eventually arrested. The two pleaded guilty to fraud and were sentenced to a reformatory by the Hong Kong District Court today (December 19th). The judge pointed out that although the two defendants were not the masterminds, they played a key role in the scam. Considering their age and potential for rehabilitation, sentencing them to a reformatory would be beneficial to their rehabilitation and the community. The case revealed that the victim handed over cash to the two defendants but did not receive the USDT for a long time. Upon returning to the store, he discovered that the money had been transferred, and the two defendants attempted to escape through the passageway but failed. The judge emphasized that this case was premeditated and involved a large sum of money, reminding the public to be vigilant and guard against similar scams.
