What to Know:
  • Republic Europe launched a SPV to provide retail investors access to Kraken shares.
  • The initiative aims to democratize investment opportunities in private markets.
  • This marks a pivotal moment in integrating retail investors into major equity events.

Republic Europe introduced a Special Purpose Vehicle on January 26, 2026, allowing European retail investors indirect equity access to Kraken before its expected U.S. IPO.

The initiative represents a pioneering chance for retail investors, potentially influencing retail access norms, capitalizing on Kraken’s $20 billion valuation and pre-IPO status.

Republic Europe Launches SPV for Pre-IPO Kraken Shares

Republic Europe launched an unprecedented SPV, targeting retail investors seeking exposure to Kraken pre-IPO. This approach offers unique opportunities usually exclusive to institutional investments. Republic Europe’s initiative enables indirect financial stakes in Kraken. This step reflects a growing trend of extending high-growth investment opportunities to retail investors. As Theodora Bishop, Senior Investment Manager at Republic Europe, stated, “With many companies staying private for longer, the most significant wealth creation opportunities do not enable access for the masses. The launch of the Kraken SPV offers a rare opportunity: enabling the community to take an indirect financial interest in a global leader shaping the future of finance. This marks a defining moment for Republic Europe, and investors, as we bring private-market quality into the public sphere.” Business Wire

SPV to Democratize Retail Access to Equity Markets

The SPV’s launch marks a pivotal point, potentially affecting retail investors by broadening their access to significant equity markets. Experts highlight the democratization of financial opportunities. This initiative is likely to spark increased interest among retail investors, positively impacting Republic Europe’s platform. Theodora Bishop noted its strategic significance for public-market integration.

Breaking Ground with Retail Investor SPVs in Crypto

This SPV is novel for retail investors in European crypto markets, as SPVs have commonly catered to private equity in tech ventures. The approach sets a precedent for future retail engagement in major financial events. While specific outcomes remain speculative, experts anticipate this trend of retail involvement to significantly influence future IPO strategies and open up further financial inclusivity.

Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future

The post Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. “It’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress,” writes Pipes. Getty Images Washington is addicted to taxing success. Now, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is floating a plan to skim half the patent earnings from inventions developed at universities with federal funding. It’s being sold as a way to shore up programs like Social Security. In reality, it’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress. Yes, taxpayer dollars support early-stage research. But the real payoff comes later—in the jobs created, cures discovered, and industries launched when universities and private industry turn those discoveries into real products. By comparison, the sums at stake in patent licensing are trivial. Universities collectively earn only about $3.6 billion annually in patent income—less than the federal government spends on Social Security in a single day. Even confiscating half would barely register against a $6 trillion federal budget. And yet the damage from such a policy would be anything but trivial. The true return on taxpayer investment isn’t in licensing checks sent to Washington, but in the downstream economic activity that federally supported research unleashes. Thanks to the bipartisan Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, universities and private industry have powerful incentives to translate early-stage discoveries into real-world products. Before Bayh-Dole, the government hoarded patents from federally funded research, and fewer than 5% were ever licensed. Once universities could own and license their own inventions, innovation exploded. The result has been one of the best returns on investment in government history. Since 1996, university research has added nearly $2 trillion to U.S. industrial output, supported 6.5 million jobs, and launched more than 19,000 startups. Those companies pay…
