'Shameful': GOP lawmaker rips Trump AG for dodging Epstein questions
When U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi testified on Capitol Hill during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, February 11, she angrily lashed out at Democratic lawmakers — including to Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington State) — and hurled numerous insults at them. Bondi described Raskin, a former constitutional law professor, as a "washed-up loser lawyer" and accused the House Democrats of having "Trump derangement syndrome." And she praised Donald Trump as " the greatest president in American history."
Bondi's performance is drawing criticism from everyone from liberal economist Paul Krugman (who described her attacks as a childish "tantrum") to right-wing radio host Erick Erickson, who said she "should be fired or resign" in light of her "ridiculous performance." And some more criticism of Bondi is coming from Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina).
During a Friday, February 13 press conference, Mace attacked Bondi for giving evasive responses to questions on the late billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein's sex crimes and trying to dodge the subject by bringing up the economy.
"When she was asked the tough questions," Mace told reporters, "she discussed the Dow and how high the stock market was doing. It's shameful…. She had her folder open, and you saw an image of a search history of a member of Congress in the software, in the database. Why is the DOJ, why is the attorney general, carrying around a folder of the search histories of members of Congress who only simply want the truth?"
Mace continued, "She should answer for that. And I think she should come before the Oversight Committee. Because I have a lot of tough questions for her."
