Trump undermines his own surgeon general nominee's chances

On Sunday night, President Donald Trump undermined his surgeon general's nominee, Casey Means, who lacks an active medical license.

On Air Force One, Trump shared he was "looking at a lot of different things," and had "a lot of great candidates."

Former Trump Surgeon General Jerome Adams opposed her nomination, stating she doesn't meet the role's centuries-old requirements.

The Senate Health Committee, responsible for advancing her nomination, includes skeptical Republican moderates Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, who haven't voiced support. Committee Chairman Bill Cassidy previously expressed misgivings about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s vaccine record.

During confirmation hearings, Means, a lifestyle health influencer, deflected questions about vaccine recommendations for children, including measles vaccines amid ongoing U.S. outbreak, instead suggesting parents consult doctors.
