Vienna authorities disclosed that a late-November crime tied to cryptocurrency assets resulted in a fatal attack, with two suspects later apprehended in Ukraine as part of an international investigation.
The victim was Daniil Kuzmin, 21, the son of Sergei Kuzmin, Kharkiv’s Deputy Mayor. Police say a substantial transfer record exists in Daniil’s cryptocurrency wallet, and the arrestees were found with significant cash following their arrest in Ukraine.
Police indicate the assault occurred in the Sofitel Hotel’s underground parking, where Daniil was restrained and, according to investigators, coerced to reveal his wallet passwords before his accounts were emptied and the car subsequently set ablaze.
Authorities named the suspects as Alexander Agafiev, 45, a former Ukrainian customs official, and Bogdan Reenzhuk, 19, the stepson of Olesia Irashko, Ukraine’s ambassador to Bulgaria. Police recovered approximately $90,000 on Agafiev as part of the case, and the broader cross-border inquiry continues.
